Happy Birthday You Sexy Beast!
Bill Shatner, international treasure, ham-tastic chewer of scenery, tackler of Terry Bradshaw, and horseman extraordinaire is 90 years-old today.
I saw Mr. Shatner speak at an event almost two years ago today and was struck by his joy at life. Here was a man who woke up that morning and said to his reflection, ‘That’s right, I get to be me again today!’ I watched for well over an hour as he galavanted around the stage, showed that a bit of old-man paunch was merely camoflage for a core of steel, and nearly laughed until I fell out of my chair. Some people speak with their hands, this person uses his whole body to express his thoughts, whether yucking it up about chasing Terry Bradshaw around with a can of lutefisk, sharing the exhileration of driving fast cars, or relating a T.J. Hooker castmate’s fear of birds in a city full of wild parrots and greasy pigeons, he put his all into letting us in on a bit of what it’s like to be Bill.
If the plague ever lifts, I recommend seeing him in-person, let your mind take flight from the gnashing teeth and surly phone trees we’re forced to deal with on a day-to-day basis, and just kick back.
Here’s to another ten years!
